Combining your love for great food with the beauty of the summer season couldn’t be easier on your Cambridge staycation.

The city is full of great alfresco dining spots. From riverside restaurants and rooftop bars to Michelin starred eateries and outdoor garden settings, Cambridge really does have it all! It’s already well known as a foodie’s paradise but dining at one of the following top alfresco spots during summer is extra special.

The Outside Inn

Located at the Quy Mill Hotel and Spa, the Outside Inn is an exclusive setting that’s only open during the spring and summer months. As Cambridgeshire’s largest outdoor bar, avid alfresco diners will be in good company. Team this with the wide selection of beers, wines, spirits and ciders, and you’re in for a great night!

The Quy Mill Hotel and Spa may be based just a few minutes away from Cambridge city centre but you’ll get lost in the beauty of its surroundings. The Outside Inn is set in 12 acres of stunning Cambridgeshire countryside and is family- and dog-friendly too.

Whilst The Outside Inn isn’t strictly a dining spot, those feeling peckish can enjoy the Quy Mill’s many on-site eateries, including another outdoor dining spot The Garden Restaurant and Terrace.

SIX

The best vantage point to take in the breathtaking Cambridge skyline, SIX is no doubt a fantastic place to enjoy a meal or a drink with a view.

You can dine or drink on its deck during the warmer months to grab an even closer look as well as feast on a range of delectable dishes from their wood stone oven, grill and rotisserie.

The Willow Tree

Another alfresco dining spot based just outside the city is The Willow Tree. Situated in the picturesque village of Bourn, The Willow Tree is a magical outdoor setting where you can enjoy great a la carte food and great company in its beautiful gardens in the sunshine or bubble up in one of their dining domes if the weather isn’t so great.

Cambridgeshire Live reporter Benjamin Turner tried out The Willow Tree’s dining domes for himself, here’s what he had to say:

“Sitting metres away from the looming willow tree in the restaurant’s garden, the domes themselves make a striking first impression… Once inside the domes, there’s a tangible feeling of being a bit special as other punters peek in at you. Being tucked away also brings a sense of privacy and intimacy as your conversations reverberate off the 80 hard plastic panels that make up the dome.”

The Oyster Lab

Pop-ups don’t get much better than The Oyster Lab! They’ll be serving their famous oysters at the equally renowned Café Foy every Friday and Saturday from 4pm throughout the summer. Pay them a visit to enjoy some fabulous food and the best riverside views.

Provenance

A deli kitchen with a difference, Provenance is an outdoor dining spot made for lazy lunches and delightful dinners. Their wonderful menu is built on the freshest, local, seasonal ingredients, which are cooked on their brick-built wood-fired hearth to create delicious dish after delicious dish.

Their courtyard and sprawling meadow garden are enchanting whether dining with them in the day or evening.
