With Freedom Day been and gone, many of us will be gearing up for a truly unforgettable summer. Whilst the pandemic is far from over and many events have been postponed until next year, there’s still plenty to enjoy in Cambridge over the summer months.

Whether you’ve been browsing our Cambridge staycation deals or are thinking of visiting our beautiful city just for the day, you’ll want to time your trip wisely to add the following summer events to your itinerary…

Hifields Festival 2021

As one of the first major events of summer, Hifields Festival really does get things started with a bang. Based at the charming, 17th century Chippenham Park estate, the festival combines music and art with an idyllic woodland location to ensure a memorable and particularly magical weekend.

Check out the line-up for this year’s event or book your tickets here.

Cambridge Shakespeare Festival

If more historic performances are your thing, you’ll want to check out Cambridge Shakespeare Festival (CSF). This annual festival runs for 8 weeks in total, so whenever you’re visiting Cambridge, be sure to check it out.

The Cambridge Shakespeare Festival is an extremely popular event – it tends to attract over 25,000 visitors every year! – and for good reason. It’s regarded by many as the country’s best open-air Shakespeare Festival, and with a backdrop of Cambridge University’s private gardens, every visitor is guaranteed a great night.

This year, you’ll enjoy fabulous performances of Shakespeare’s best-loved productions. The 2021 programme will see The Comedy of Errors, Romeo and Juliet, The Merry Wives of Windsor, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Richard III, and Macbeth on stage.

Zog

If you’re planning a family staycation this summer, why not take your little ones to see Zog at the Cambridge Corn Exchange?

Running for two days only – on Tuesday 31st August and Wednesday 1st September 2021 – it’s a family-friendly production that should not be missed as well as a chance to enjoy a live performance of one of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s best-loved books.

Music in the Parks

Music in the Parks makes the most of all the city’s stunning green spaces, so don’t miss out on attending these live music concerts during your trip.

Organiser Cambridge City Council has a jam-packed itinerary in store for music lovers, showcasing local jazz and folk artists as well as the area’s best brass bands. Your summer of music begins on Sunday 8th August at Cherry Hinton Hall and will continue through August and September at various venues throughout Cambridge.

Artists are yet to be announced so keep an eye out for news. The events are free too, simply pack a picnic, choose the perfect spot and enjoy a music-filled afternoon with your loved ones in the glorious summer sunshine!

The Cambridge Buskers and Street Performers Festival

After the sad news that this year’s July event was cancelled, we’re pleased to announce that the renowned Cambridge Buskers and Street Performers Festival IS returning for 2021.

Taking place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th September 2021, you’ll get to enjoy a vibrant event and an amazing atmosphere. Here festival director Heather Bevan-Hunt explains more about what to expect from this year’s event:

“I’m really excited the festival is back on the streets of the city and am looking forward to the fabulous array of talent Cambridge has to offer. We hope the performances will bring a smile to people’s faces after a very difficult year. It’s a great opportunity for young up and coming performers to showcase their act where the street is the stage.”

The free event will also feature a children’s corner for 2021. Here your little ones can enjoy tales and performances from the city’s best storytellers, so the festival really will be fun for all the family.
