With the COVID-19 or Coronavirus pandemic gripping the UK, it’s safe to say that it hasn’t been business as usual for a vast number of individuals up and down the country. The nationwide lockdown and social distancing measures have changed life as we know it for the foreseeable future.
Our country is currently being propped up by a legion of key workers, with NHS staff, police officers, prison officers, firefighters, delivery drivers, and carers on our frontline. And we couldn’t be prouder of the hard work our key workers are putting in at this difficult time.
As a leading provider of serviced apartments, like many businesses, we’ve had to adapt to safeguard our employees, our guests, and the wider community. In response to the crisis, we’re pleased to announce that our award-winning, fully equipped serviced apartments are now available as key worker accommodation. Our serviced apartments are helping people who are supporting our country fulfil their essential roles safely and efficiently.
In this blog post, we reveal more about the key worker accommodation currently available from Citystay.
What is key worker accommodation?
With news that the Association of Serviced Apartment Providers (ASAP) has been inundated with requests from key workers regarding the supply of serviced accommodation, ISAAP accredited providers have been quick to act.
Keyworker and emergency accommodation is now available from Citystay in the heart of Cambridge to ensure locally based key workers or those commuting to Cambridge for work can find the safe haven they need during this difficult time.
Keyworker and emergency accommodation is also available for essential workers who have been displaced to work in Cambridge due to COVID-19 demands. This includes NHS and other key workers relocating to the area to help our community deal with the crisis.
Keyworker and emergency accommodation ensures you can keep yourself, your family and the wider community safe. By staying with us, you can stay away from home to safeguard those closest to you.
You may also be able to minimise or eliminate your daily commute by staying closer to your workplace, meaning you can protect yourself and others in the process.
Am I eligible for accommodation support?
During the early days of lockdown, and following the closure of UK schools to all non-key workers, there was much confusion about who is classed as a key worker.
Here the Telegraph offers a definitive definition:
“Key workers are people whose jobs are vital to public health and safety during the coronavirus lockdown. Because their work is so vital, the Government is keen to ensure that they are able to carry out their jobs with as little restriction as possible, which means being able to put their children in school and use necessary transport links.”
With this in mind, those serving the health and social care, education and childcare, food and necessities, utilities, transport, public safety, and national security, and other key public sectors are classed as key workers.
This includes but is not limited to all NHS staff, teachers and teaching assistants, nursery staff, social workers, food chain workers, utility workers, police and support staff. Local and national government workers, including those in administration roles, are also classed as key workers.
We are providing key worker and emergency accommodation to all key workers, including those listed above. Those needing to self isolate away from home will also be accommodated.
As well as offering a convenient base in the centre of Cambridge, all Citystay apartments are fully equipped to guarantee a home away from home, even during these uncertain times.
